From my vantage point I could see from the limited movement in the palm trees that the boys would be having a hard and very hot day. The dark blue Caribbean beyond the reef was definitely the quietest I'd seen it since arriving.
Also a bit worrying was Leonards' departing comments " I don't feel well"....
Sure enough when the results came in for R1 they had Len down at 14, Markus at 18 and Isaac 19.
R2 was a bit better for Markus and Isaac but Len took a dive to 21.
Seems a bit of the opposition at the top of the field are pretty race ready having come from the Scandia race week and then the NAMS. Still another 10 races to get back at them though.
There was a lot of thundercloud activity in the area that was causing the weak sea breeze to fluctuate in both strength and direction. Apparently our boys were all well placed at the front most of the way up the first beat only for a big change to drop them back. Len was not looking motivated having chucked 4 times up to the start of the second race and must have been getting seriously dehydrated not being able to keep down the water and Moro bars Chris was trying to keep him going on.
Luckily the committee called it a day and everyone headed back to the pool. Leonard got to meet the in house med team who are wearing Olympic medic uniforms. They promptly had him over the sink pouring iced water over his head to bring his temperature down and then on the bench for a needle in the posterior. Then some paracetamol and a handful to take home and we were in line for the shuttle bus.
Obviously a bit of concern in the camp but hopefully it will be a lesson to be learnt about too much sun and over exuberance in the pool and not something more serious. As of 11pm he is asleep with what seems to be less of a temperature and thankfully hasn't regurgitated the last bottle of Gatorade that the Doc recommended we slowly rehydrate him with.

ReplyDeleteI hope you are feeling better soon, Leonard. You look just like William did on the last day of racing in Thailand last year. He knows what you are going through. Take care! Good results boys, well done! Cold and wet here. Sara and William :)
